Miyako Taiko translates to “Capital Drum” in Japanese and is the community taiko group I perform with as part of the Mark H Rooney Taiko School. Our group is based in Washington D.C. and our name and design reflect our group’s diverse makeup. We included kanji, which was hand-written by the father of one of members, in our logo to represent the Japanese tradition our group is a part of.
